Meet Vitantonio, the Italian winner of the first Lago contest

The second LAGO contest is open until 18 February. Participate at http://contest.lago.it: sign up and you could be an instant winner of an object from the Filodolce collection or a gift card, and you will be entered in the final draw for a trip to one of the great European capitals of design.

While waiting to find out who will be the winner of the trip, we went to interview Vitantonio of Altamura (Bari), the Italian winner of a Wildwood table, one of the prizes offered in the first Lago contest, “Design is changing“. Air Wildwood Table

Vitantonio, how did you find out about the Lago contest and why did you decide to participate?

My fiancée and I stopped by our city’s Lago retailer to check out the furniture, in advance of our wedding. Entering the store, we were immediately struck by the table that the Tucci shop had on display, paired with a stunning glass Lago kitchen. We knew right then that this would be the brand for our furniture. Mr Tucci, the owner of the shop, told us about the contest, which was very easy to participate in. So we did and fortune followed us!

What do you like in particular about Lago design?

I really like the pairing of glass and wood. And also the minimalist, linear and basic style of its components, just like the contest prizes: simple but at the same time stylish.

What is your favourite room of the house?

My favourite is the bedroom, since it is a place where you can relax.

What are your passions?

Like all  guys, I like to play football with old friends. Another of my passions, and this is a little particular and not for everyone, is working in my kitchen garden at weekends. Luckily, thanks to my grandfather, my family has a farm with annexed land.

Where will you put the Air Wildwood table?

In the dining room, which is a special space. Entering the room, it will be the first thing you notice, since the legs are glass and it almost seems like the table surface is floating in the air.

The Wildwood table was delivered by Franco Tucci, the owner of Tucci Arredamenti, during the award event. consegna tavolo wildwood tucci arredamanento If you want to find out more about the Air Wildwood table, take a look at this post.

In Bari, the first Appartamento LAGO Real Estate

At the MADE Expo, we launched ‘Appartamento LAGO Real Estate’, a project targeted to builders and estate agents, offering Lago designer consulting on the furnishing of the first residential unit in a given building complex.

On Saturday 5 October, at the worksite on Via Matarrese in Bari, we held the inaugural meeting for what will be the first example of the Appartamento LAGO Real Estate. The flat is located in ‘Noema‘, a 9-hectare residential and office space building area in the area of Santa Fara, created, customised and interpreted by Noema Immobiliare. The complete design of the flat, from the interior divisions to the choice of furnishings, has been developed by the team from Lagostore Bari (Gianni, Benny, Ann Katrin, Raffaella and Giuliano) and Lagospace “Il Chiodo”.

Panoramica Appartamneto LAGO Noema

The following participated in the presentation meeting: Simone Degennaro, governing director of Noema; Vito Coppola, architect and designer and Daniele Lago, linked from Milan.

The flat on Via Matarrese is part of a residential and office space area with 750 residential units that will host around 2,000 people and 70,000 square metres of office space.

Noema cantiere

The sample unit was, originally, a two-room flat with a single view, bathroom and small kitchen. Since it would have been difficult for such a space to satisfy the needs of a family (parents and child), the Lagostore Bari design team redesigned it, optimising the spaces and choosing the versatility of the LAGO systems for the furnishings.

Cucina Appartamento LAGO Noema

In place of the small kitchen, they added a second bedroom, shifting the kitchen area to the living room. In just a few square metres, they were able to carve out: a conversation area, a cooking area, a dining area and an entryway with Tangram shelving.

The master bedroom, which was long and narrow, was reworked, dividing it in two and thus creating two autonomous but integrated spaces.

Camera da letto Appartamento LAGO Noema

Using N.O.W. wardrobes, they created a vestibule in the darker area opposite, a kind of filter that leads to an alcove flooded with light where one can relax, suspended in a Fluttua bed.

The decision to furnish a small flat, instead of one of the Noema complex’s larger ones, was both a challenge and a dare, demonstrating that LAGO design, modular by nature, can create elegant, original settings in any kind of space.

Città Invisibili Kids Village, a lesson in creativity from children

Working with children is a journey through the freest forms of creativity, devoid of useless superstructures and a constant source of unexpected stimulus. We got proof of this at the two workshops – Saturday, 5 October and Saturday, 12 October – that we organised at Casa su Misura, the Padua furniture fair, inside the Città Invisibili Kids Village, a special area reserved for children and their parents.

Kids Village

In this space, the children got to look through enchanting books, listen to stories, participate in creative workshops, draw and read with their parents, who in turn had the chance to get advice about what and how to read to their children and how to design a room specially for kids.

Libri infanzia

During the workshops, which were called ‘La città diseducativa’ (literally, ‘the city of setting a bad example’), the LAGO Personal Kid Designer and the Città Invisibili workshop leader guided the children through the planning of a very special house, filled with dream rooms and secret spaces.

It was interesting to discover the places where children like to hide themselves at home, what their favourite room is and how they would change the furnishings if they could. These workshops helped us better understand their needs, the colours and materials they like best and which kinds of environments make them feel safe.

The most fun thing was to see them interacting with our furniture, while they read, coloured and played.

Their creativity was expressed with complete freedom … and just a few crayons were all it took to transform two Air Wildwood benches into blank sheets for their names, flowers and dreams.

A restyle that we liked so much that we decided to display the benches, together with their ‘dream house’, in our Art Waiting Room.
